News Article PSD Receives Two 2021 BRICC Awards

Riptide and Eagle’s Nest, recent PSD projects awarded GOLD BRICC Awards at the 2021 HBRACC gala.

The BRICC Awards are held biennially by the Home Builders and Remodelers Association of Cape Cod (HBRACC) to recognize outstanding architects, builders, remodelers, designers, and other housing-related professionals. At the event in October, PSD was presented two BRICC Awards. PSD’s “Riptide” won a GOLD BRICC Award as a Remodeling/Renovation/Addition project and PSD’s “Eagle's Nest” won a GOLD BRICC Award as a New Construction, Single Family Home project. PSD's Founding Partner, Peter Polhemus was in attendance to accept the awards. This marks fourteen total BRICC Awards for PSD over the years.

Riptide is separated from Shore Road by stonewalls and sweeping lawn, and from Chatham Harbor by a tall bluff, the high visibility location and the grand 1930’s transformation made Riptide a Cape Cod icon. Through subsequent additions and alterations, including a previous renovation by PSD, it has remained iconic ever since. When the current owners bought the house, they wanted to adapt it to meet their needs and reflect their character but also wanted to maintain the Colonial Revival forms and details that confer this status.

Eagle’s Nest is located on the South Shore of Massachusetts and is a compact contemporary shingle style house. The front displays balanced asymmetry, where there is such strong symmetry in the center, that as one moves away from the center the symmetry breaks down without diminishing the strength or primacy of the entry sequence. On the two water view sides the roof appears to peel up to reveal a second floor that has a continuous band of windows to the panoramic view.
