Construction Manager / Site Superintendent

The Construction Manager/Site Superintendent is responsible for all aspects of project management on work sites, including ensuring compliance with design, project specifications, regulations, timelines and safety codes.

The Construction Manager/Site Superintendent is responsible for all aspects of project management on work sites, including ensuring compliance with design, project specifications, regulations, timelines and safety codes. The incumbent monitors workers and subcontractors job performances on work sites to ensure duties are being completed. The Construction Manager must have a strong dedication to health and safety in the workplace ensuring all workers and subcontractors perform their duties in accordance with policies and procedures. Essential job responsibilities include:

• Lead all work on residential construction sites to ensure compliance with design, project specifications, regulations and safety codes
• Plan, implement and monitor construction plans
• Assist with estimates and budget development for projects
• Organize and coordinate subcontractor activities
• Manage site startup
• Ensure that safe work practices and procedures are being followed onsite at all times
• Coordinate and direct all construction workers onsite
• Ensure accurate and timely project close date; adjust working schedules to ensure deadlines are met
• Complete job site administration duties such as timesheet completion for workers and any daily logs that need to be maintained
• Ensure proper manpower levels are available onsite each day to ensure constructional completion
• Ensure proper materials and quantities of materials are onsite prior to daily work commencing
• Lead project meetings with internal and external parties to monitor and report on progression of building
• Supervise all workers onsite; provide feedback to workers, enforce company policy and administer disciplinary measures if required
• Identify and resolve conflicts within project teams and associated work; create contingency plans to mitigate risk
• Oversee total construction effort to ensure project is constructed in accordance with design, budget and schedule
• Aid crew members on site whenever required
• Develop, monitor and oversee quality control measures on work sites
• Pursue cost effective alternative measures to improve financial performance on projects
• Ensure building inspections are completed periodically throughout the construction phases to ensure buildings meet client specifications

• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, field drawings and plans
• A solid understanding of all residential construction trades and construction techniques

• Flexibility to adjust to shifting priorities and deadlines

Required Experience:

• Post-secondary school degree or diploma in a construction related area of study
• Minimum of 5 years' of direct work experience working in residential construction of with 3 years' of supervisory and / project management experience
• Knowledge of local, provincial and federal workplace compliance regulations, ordinances and legislation in relation to the construction industry, specifically residential construction
• Understanding fundamentals of contracts and experience in managing contractors under the terms of a contract
• Knowledge of OH&S regulations and related residential building codes
• Possess a valid driver's license
• Current OSHA 30, First Aid and CPR certifications

Physical Job Demands:

Reaching above and below, stooping and bending. Lifting/carrying/moving up to 50 pounds. Travel to site and off-site locations required. Overtime as required.

Working Conditions:

Field and/or office environment. May be exposed to hazardous environments with heavy machinery. Safety equipment required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
